Over the weekend, Tricia, Emily, and I took a guided bicycle tour through Old Delhi. My bike riding is non-existent at home so I have no idea why I thought it would be ok for me to attempt it in the insane traffic and road conditions here. The first bike I rode was way too tall for me and I could not put my feet on the ground. It was terrible. I got items 1-8 listed above on my first bike. Finally, one of the tour guides made me switch with another guy who had a smaller bike. I was doing pretty well and was really proud of myself until I reached a narrow alley with a sharp bend...that was when #9 met his fate. Oh the poor citizens of India!
Luckily, no one was hurt and everyone was in pretty good spirits about it. All except the man with the spilled milk. He didn't really believe in the phrase, "There's no point in crying over spilled milk."
The tour itself was great! We got to see Old Delhi, which is narrow, crowded, and extremely busy. Even at 8 AM, I had a difficult time dodging people and animals. We rode past the flower market and went into the spice market, which made every foreigner cough and sneeze, although the natives had no issues whatsoever. We also popped by the Red Fort, a few ancient mosques, and the remaining gates of the city. It was a great way to see the Walled City!

Oh Stinks.. I guess that purple and pink bike from back in the day didn't help you much in training for that guided tour. I hope you are feeling well. Mom was freaking out because she had not heard from you and rumor had it that John or you had an upset stomach. This then lead to one of Mom's infamous worry sessions...
ReplyDelete"Are they eating?"
"John is going to starve!"
"Nancy cannot handle the heat!"
"Dad and I should send food!"
"Do you think the postal system will allow us to send beef to John in India??!!"
Haha.. missing you and John!
Lots-o-Love,
Stinkey
I'm glad to hear you're still alive! I talked to my mom last night and she said you were bit by an insect, John ate a small Indian man and got sick and somehow Emi made it all the way to India! Wow, I'm so happy none of it is true!
ReplyDeleteI love the blog:) Sorry it took me so long to take a look!
Tell John I said hi and have a great time!
Love, Kate
when do you plan on going to Darjeeling? the city itself is absolutely gorgeous. But a little heads up, the ride up the mountain to Darjeeling is extremely hellish, so be careful.

Hi Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog:) India sounds like quite an adventure. I cannot believe how many things/people you hit on your bike. It must be very crowded. I really enjoyed Lisa's post about your mom wanting to send John beef - so thoughtful! Miss you lots:)

Nance!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! It is excellent. I am so glad you guys are having a great experience and learning a lot! I LOLed at your post about holding hands with the Indian boys (awkward turtle!). When does John get there (or is he already there?) Thanks for the bday wishes, we all miss you here. Nothing too excited going on...I went to DC last weekend and found an apartment which is exciting--you will have to come visit! Anyways, I hope your stomach is feeling better and that you're surviving the heat!
Love,
Claire
