Arrived in New Delhi relatively without much drama, although there was so much turbulence on the way over I was convinced that the plane would split in half and I would end up scattered over the ocean (too much Lost, I think!) Also, when the plane landed, I saw a few military men with very large riffles hiding behind Jeeps and "covertly" moving towards their target. No one else seemed concerned and later Tricia and I concluded that they were probably scrimmaging. Still, not a very comforting first image in a foreign land!
So far, I've seen 4 cows walking about aimlessly in the busy streets. The last day and a half have been spent trying to adjust to the heat and new time zone, getting oriented to the city and the program, and lots of planning for my weekend trips. Can't wait!
Tomorrow, we go to the Punjabi country-side to do a week's work in rural medicine in child and maternal health. I doubt I will have internet there so my next post will have to come next week (and hopefully with pictures once John comes with my USB cord!)
